mycelium new music

mycelium new music is a Chicago-based ensemble committed to creating exciting, multidisciplinary performances of contemporary music. Like a mycelial network - the vital underground web of fungi through which plants symbiotically share resources and communicate - the ensemble is dedicated to building connections and supporting emerging voices in Chicago’s ecosystem of art-making.
In its debut 24/25 season, the ensemble presents two performances of new and recent music, all by rising star young composers, and with all of the composers present. At its fall concert at Constellation, composer and alt-folk vocalist Annika Socolofsky joins the ensemble for the Chicago premiere of her song cycle Don’t say a word, alongside music by young composers Seare Farhat, Christian Quiñones, and Grace Ann Lee. Its spring performance centers the world premiere of a new version of Bobby Ge’s Picture Whimsies, paired with readings of new work by Chicago-based poets, alongside new and recent works by Ania Vu and ensemble members Paul Novak and Jonathan Hannau. mycelium new music is fiscally sponsored by the International Foundation for Contemporary Music (IFCM). |
