rhizome project

s.p.o.r.e. series

mycelium new music's annual rhizome project showcases works by rising star emerging composers which have received a premiere, but have not yet gone on to have a full life. These are pieces which may have received a premiere but no subsequent performances, or to which the composer may want to revise or add to, or which may not yet have a recording. Through the rhizome project, three emerging composers each year receive a fully funded trip to Chicago for a collaborative workshop, recording, and performance with mycelium new music.

Past rhizome composers include:

2025
Sofia Jen Ouyang
Carlos Bandera
Arjan Singh Dogra

2024
Christian Quinones
Grace Ann Lee
Seare Farhat
mycelium new music's s.p.o.r.e. (satellite performance of reduced ensemble) series presents performances of chamber music, curated and performed by members of the ensemble. its inaugural s.p.o.r.e. performances features violinist Dylan Feldpausch, cellist Isidora Nojkovic, and pianist Jonathan Hannau in an immersive and multimedia-driven program of music for piano trio.
